Genesis 18:1-33

When we come to Genesis 18, we again find God overcoming anything that stands in the way of his promises being fulfilled. When Ishmael is born, they believe they are hurdling over an instance, when in fact, they are the ones creating the obstacle in the first place.

Genesis 18 shows how God goes about removing the obstacles of Sara's barrenness and Ishmael's claim to the promised land as Abraham's heir. As God has overcome these obstacles, he explained his covenant with Abraham further, established a sign of the covenant, and now he promises a true son by which his promises will be fulfilled. It also shows that God is just and righteous in thinking about Sodom and the outcry of the people there.
