The Presence of God

In Genesis 26, the author steps away from the story of Jacob and Esau and regresses, as it were, back in time to focus on their parents. Wise children observe their parents’ actions and decide whether they are going to emulate their parents or not. In the case of Issac, he emulates his father’s actions and decides to deceive Abimelech by lying and deceit. But why does he do this?
Well, it was the same reason that his father did it – attempting to protect and ensure the promises of God come to pass. Yet, we see the same lesson that God is seeking for us to learn. Namely, that God remains faithful and committed to bringing about his promises and blessings that ultimately culminate in the blessing and promise of Jesus.
