"For Ezra set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel."
Ezra 7:10
Patriarchy is good. After all, men were made to rule. They always have ruled, and they always will rule. It how God created the natural order of the world. Trying to stop patriarchy is like trying to stop gravity. You can’t do it. Nature will win, every time.
But patriarchy is not good because it is a product of “Mother Nature,” it is good, because it comes from God who is “the Father of all, over all, and through all, and in all” (Eph 4:6). Patriarchy is good, because God the Father created it that way – and it is simply a word that means “father rule.”
In this sense, all redemptive history is a patriarchal history. History began this way with Adam, and it will end this way with the second Adam, Jesus Christ (Rom 5:17). In between these two patriarchs there has been men who ruled well, and there have been men who ruled poorly. Some men’s rule has been redemptive; some men’s rule has been destructive.
The real question is will you – as a man who is designed to rule – rule justly or unjustly? Will you rule like Adam or like Christ? Will you be rule bring destruction or redemption?
