Will He Deliver On His Promises?

Throughout Abraham’s life, we have seen the God directly involved in his affairs. Whether God is be speaking with him audibly, whether it be intervening to protect Sarah, or causing Sarah and Abraham to have a child in their old age. God has been consistently, directly, and obviously involved in Abraham’s life.

But now that Sarah has died -- there is a conspicuous absence of God in Genesis 23. There is not only an absence of God’s name, but there also seems to be a lack of God’s presence to comfort Abraham when Sarah dies. Where did God go?

Furthermore, not only does there seem to be an absence of God’s comforting presence during this time in Abraham’s life, but there also doesn’t seem to be any help when being haggled and extorted by the Hittites. Abraham simply trying to bury his wife, and after dealing with the worst used car salesman from the Hittites, he pays far more than the going rate of land.

Does God just let Abraham get ripped off? What happened? Where is God in all this? Well, despite what it may seem like, there is a focus that the writer is pointing to, God is working, and God is keeping his promises.
