Galatians 1:10-24

In Paul's letter to the churches in Galatian, he reveals the motive for their error to add works to the gospel: people pleasing (1:10). To use Paul's own words, he says the Judaizers "want to make a good showing in the flesh" (6:12). Paul emphatically states what his motive is: to be a servant of Christ. Paul then recounts the origin of the message he is preaching, and he goes on to show that he received it directly from Christ (1:11-12). The next section is telling in that Paul defends the validity of the message he preached though his own personal testimony and how the churches in Judea praise God because of the power of the gospel (1:24).

This message breaks down into three points:

1. The origin of the false gospel in Galatia was people-pleasing (1:10).

2. The origin of Paul's gospel was Jesus, then Paul was entrusted with it (1:11-20).

3. The manifest validity of the gospel is you: you are your best argument (1:21-24)
