Galatians 3:15-25

In Galatians 3:15-25, Paul wrote to the churches to combat a mortal sin; a different gospel. This false gospel taught that in addition to Christ, trusting in certain commands that you follow was also needed for salvation. The apostle Paul says that those who rely on Jesus and good works are "under a corse" (Gal 3:10), because nobody can keep all of the law, or do all the good deeds they should. In this text, we see that (1) moral effort can be a mortal sin, ask the question (2) why then did God give us commands, and (3) see the function of the law -- to show a person how badly they need Christ, not more good works.
