The Significance

In the first chapter of Ephesians, we saw the purpose and plan of God choosing, or electing, his people to participate in his grand plan. In love, he chose us before the foundation of the world and sealed with the Spirit, who guarantees that we will receive the promises of God. In Ephesians 2, we see how God saves his people individually (Eph 2:1-11) and how be brings his people together in a local church (Eph 2:11-22). And while many people have tried to create heaven on earth, only the Spirit empowered church of Jesus Christ is anything like heaven on earth, and only the Spirit empowered church inherits the promise of heaven itself.
