The Example of Sarah

So far, we have seen that regarding to civil government, Christians should be subject to legitimate government authority (2:13–17). Regarding the employer and employee relationship, servants should be subject to their masters, even patiently enduring unjust treatment, following Christ’s example (2:18–25).
In this passage, regarding marriage, wives should be subject to their husbands – even unbelieving husbands – some of whom will trust in Christ when they see their wives’ godly behavior. In all circumstances of life, a wife should exemplify Sarah’s example of a ‘gentle and quiet spirit’ that is the primary source of her beauty, and she should continue trusting in God without fear (3:1–6).
