The Line Between Parent's and Children's Responsibility

As parents who are raising children in a digital world, it can be quite challenging to know how to think through all the digital issues well. In this session, we are going to look at three principles for parenting in a digital world:

First, digital training begins when are children are toddlers (Deut 6:4-9). We do this by actively discipling our children (Deut 32:45-47; Ps 78:1-8; Eph 6:1-4).

Second, we are to know what options are available for our children when it comes time for them to have a digital device.

Third, our children are responsible for their actions with digital devices (Prov 20:11). We look at the prophet Ezekiel to see that what our children do with their digital devices is ultimately their own choice, and then we tale a look at Eli and his sons to see that parents bear a measure of responsibility to intervene when their children are sinning with digital devices (1 Sam 2). Then we take a look at a bad example of digital parenting: the parent who does not correct their child (1 Kings 1:5-6; 2 Sam 13:21).

This session has the goal of helping you decide how to parent your children with their devices and where the line is between the parent's and the child's responsibility for how digital devices are used.
