Few evangelical Christians would dispute the seriousness of the gospel. Indeed, it would be hard to categorize someone as an evangelical who did so. However, such a statement leaves open the fundamental question: what does it actually look like to be serious about the gospel? Anyone who is serious about the gospel must be serious about its content. The gospel is not a vague message of cosmic benevolence, nor is it open to private interpretation on the part of the receptor. The gospel has a very specific content, and this content is unchanging and binding across time, geography, and cultures.

Being serious about the gospel, therefore, means being serious about biblical studies. It requires a commitment to knowing the Bible as thoroughly as possible. This certainly includes the practice of inductive Bible study, but it involves far more than that. Knowing the Bible requires a grasp of the whole as the necessary context for understanding its parts.

Fireside gathers for corporate worship on Sundays at The Country Inn and Suites in Elizabethtown. It is sometimes easy to forget that a church starts as a church plant. Many of them start without a building in which the church owns. Church plants often start in places such as public schools, hotels, civic centers, or other places where a group can gather and allow for sustained growth while saving for future facilities. Think of it is like a tree that can start out planted in a pot, but when it grows it will eventually be planted in the ground. We see the hotel as a gracious and God-given means by which Fireside can grow into maturity - and eventually a permeant facility.
