Once a person repents and places their faith in the Lord Jesus, they begin the life-long endeavor of growing in Christ and following him along with everyone else who believes in Christ and is following him (Matthew 28:18–20), which takes place in the local church. The biblical picture of the believer’s relationship to the local church is one of active commitment and involvement (Acts 2:42–47, Ephesians 4:11–16), and the necessity of that relationship is neither optional nor negotiable (Hebrews 10:25, 13:17, 1 Peter 4:10). At Fireside, we recognize and formalize this relationship by means of the membership covenant.
