Gossip: Straight Talk About Crooked Speech

In the Christian life, words are extremely important. The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21). We can easily underestimate the power of words because we use them as a part of our live incessantly. But if we take a look at the results of sin, we can see how serious sin can be.

Take adultery, for example. In a church, adultery is understood as a serious sin. The consequences prove that very fact, because adultery destroys trust, families, marriages, and souls. However, it is unlikely to destroy a church. However, gossip and slander is a sin that is devastating to churches.

What adultery does to a marriage, gossip does to a church.

It is that serious, and Jesus takes seriously those who afflict his bride -- the church (2 Thess 1:5-7). In this sermon, we are going to see what gossip and slander are, the motives for gossiping and slandering, and how the the prophet Moses and the apostle Paul tells the church to respond to gossip -- by purging the evil person from the church.
